There is now just a week to go before the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix kicks off in Christchurch, with SailGP’s fleet of flying F50s preparing for two days of fast and furious racing.
Set against the iconic backdrop of Whakaraupō, Lyttelton Harbour, the event marks the penultimate leg of Season 3’s 11-event calendar.
Racing will take place between 3pm – 4.30pm NZDT on March 18 & 19, with the league’s hydro foiling catamarans going head to head just meters from shoreside crowds.
The pressure is on home town heroes New Zealand, currently in second place overall, to extend their lead on Quentin Delapierre’s France in third. Tom Slingsby’s Australia meanwhile has a clear 12-point lead at the top of the leaderboard.
After Christchurch, SailGP will travel onto the iconic waters of San Francisco for the Season 3 winner-takes-all Grand Final on May 6-7.
