Benetti M / Y “Metis” wins the World Superyacht Award 2020
Benetti’s 63-meter mega-yacht “Metis” wins the World Superyacht Awards in the category “Displacement yachts between 1000 and 1499 GT”.
The Boat International judges were impressed by the interior architecture that is developed on a particularly modern style design and bears the signature of the British studio Bannenberg & Rowell, and by the innovative exteriors, together with the design, born from the pencil of Giorgio M. Cassetta and his team.
In a completely new context such as that of the online ceremony, held on Friday 13 November, Benetti’s megayacht “Metis” won first place at the 2020 World Superyacht Awards in the category “Displacement yachts between 1,000 and 1,499 GT”.
The expert shipowners that make up the jury of the World Superyacht Awards have recognized in “Metis” those characteristics of elegance and excellence of Made in Italy typical of the Benetti brand. The judges especially appreciated the correspondence of the interior design with the owner’s requests, at the same time surpassing the most modern design trends, including those that want the interiors to be more and more in contact with the outside, giving great visibility to the sea. . The beach club is another element that fascinated the jury for its ability to connect guests and the surrounding nature, thanks to the opening of the three large aft doors.
M / Y “Metis” is a 63 meter custom yacht with contemporary and timeless features that reveals large volumes behind flowing lines and innovative features. The steel hull and the aluminum superstructure are developed in 6 decks for a maximum beam of 11 meters. The touch-and-go platform for the helicopter, the owner’s apartment of more than 160 square meters with an exclusive outdoor terrace and the large outdoor areas are just some of the incredible features of the yacht. The 20 m2 gym on the Fly Deck is the icing on the cake that Kurt Lehman of Yacht Moments is especially proud of, as this detail, one of many that fascinated the jury, was born from her intuition.
For the interiors, the London-based studio Bannenberg & Rowell introduced a new design approach that led to a particular design in which the beach club, the main lounge on the main deck and the lounge area on the deck top are rotated approximately 30 degrees. compared to traditional configurations, thus revealing new observation points at sea. The architecture developed by the English studio is characterized by extensive use of bleached oak wood embellished with leather inserts and materials such as carbon and polished steel.
Giovanna Vitelli, Vice President of the Azimut Group | Benetti commented: “I share the award with everyone who participated in the realization of this important project. ‘Metis’ best expresses Benetti’s design and construction skills and is an emblem of the best Made in Italy industrial and manufacturing. The proof of how close the final result is to excellence, in addition to this recognition, is the sale of another four yachts based on the Metis project, which will go to owners on four different continents ”.
Dickie Bannenberg underlined, regarding the collaboration with Benetti: “Benetti simply understood how aesthetics and engineering are part of the same process rather than separate disciplines. Wanting to use a fashion analogy: the most beautiful fabric will go to waste if used for a dress that is not cut properly. I think Italians carry this marriage in their blood. In the design phase we had carte blanche and when we conceived the spaces asymmetrically, we were able to create less formal areas (maintaining a modern and innovative style), through new visuals, a lighter and cleaner structure and, in general, a dynamic new approach to both furniture and architecture. “
