Volvo Penta stops production and sale of Seven Marine engines
Volvo Penta announced that it will discontinue development of its outboard engines and marketing of Seven Marine engines from January 1, 2021, as well as phase out production once demand is met.
Volvo Penta President Heléne Mellquist said: “Volvo Penta anticipates that the outboard segment will continue to be relevant to the marine leisure market, but we believe that the indisputable need to drive advancements in sustainable technology should be our primary focus. At the moment, the exploration of new technologies together with the development of Volvo Penta IPS and sterndrives, will be the center of our efforts.
The company said in a statement that it will continue to support the current outboard customer base by assuming full warranty and parts responsibility for existing products.
Volvo believes in the highest fuel efficiency and zero emissions available through hybrid, electric and renewable fuels as the new direction.
The Volvo Group also announced the ambition to be a net zero emissions company by 2050.
Volvo Penta will intensify efforts and resources towards the continuous development of sustainable solutions.
