BARCOLANA YOUNG
REGISTRATION OPEN AT WWW.BARCOLANA.IT
THE PERPETUAL CHALLENGE TROPHY IS ONE OF THIS YEAR’S NEW ADDITIONS
Registration is open for Trieste’s Barcolana Young, the event which opens the week-long Barcolana every year.
“Barcolana Young, said Mitja Gialuz, President of the Sailing Club of Barcola and Grignano (SVBG), is one of the most important events to us, it is the epitome of the Barcolana’s true spirit of sharing, joy and passion for sports. We want our young sailors to have fun, to do their best at sea during the regattas and on land during the events dedicated to them. We are ready for a great Coppa d’Autunno and our young people will give us an amazing opening again this year”.
Barcolana Young will be organised by the Sailing Club of Barcola and Grignano with the support of the Fondazione CRTrieste (CRTrieste Foundation). The event will take place during the first weekend of October, namely on Saturday 1 October and Sunday 2 October, and will include six races (three per day) dedicated to athletes born between 2007 and 2013: the first race will start at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday 1 October, after the Coach Meeting at 10:30 a.m.. Races will be held on Sunday 2 October as well, with the last one starting at 16:00 p.m.. Afterwards, the several prizes listed in the call for bids will be awarded during the awards ceremony.
The “Barcolana Young”’s Trofeo Challenge Perpetuo (perpetual Challenge Trophy) is one of this year’s new additions. The Trophy will be awarded to the sailing club with the first three ranked athletes with the lowest score in Division A (sailors born from 2007 to 2011) and the first two ranked athletes with the lowest score in Division B (sailors born in 2012 and 2013) in the final classification.
“Barcolana Young, said Alessandro Bonifacio, SVBG’s youth sports director, is a well-established event. For many years, it has been a sort of rite of passage for the young sailors of the Optimist Class. As SVBG, our goal is to improve its quality and to enhance the work that sailing clubs do for young people; we strongly promoted the introduction of the perpetual Challenge Trophy to underscore the key role of sailing clubs in young athlete’s growth”.
Barcolana Young’s logistics base will be the Molo IV. A particular focus will be on managing the event both at sea and on land. Registration for the regatta is open on the website www.barcolana.it, where you can find all official documents.
