After eight days of competition, with light and strong winds, sun, rain, much dispute, emotion and balance, this Saturday the 30th the champions of the 49th Ilhabela International Sailing Week were defined. The largest ocean sailing competition in South America had the participation of 115 boats and nearly 1,000 Brazilian and Argentine sailors. The event brought together two-time Olympic champions and medalists, world champions, Pan American medalists, as well as renowned names in Brazilian and international sailing, and new sailors who had the opportunity to live an unprecedented experience with their idols in the Sailing Tomorrow Regatta. .
In the ORC class, the champion was Crioula 52, a boat from Porto Alegre (RS), which beat Phoenix, from Guarujá (SP). In the C30 another sensational dispute and the Crazy Horse, with two-time Olympic champion Robert Scheidt in the lead, a boat from Ilhabela and Ubatuba, beat Loyalty 06 by just one point. In BRA-RGS and Classics, the two-time Olympic champion Torben Grael won with Lady Lou. In the Super 40, with Soto 40 model boats that competed in the ORC, the King champion was only known in the fourth tiebreaker against Argos, which featured Olympic medalist Lars Grael. In Multihull, the Aventureiro 4 boat from Pernambuco won all six races. In Bico de Proa, BL3 Bangalô won. And in the HPE 25 the first place went to the Show, followed by the Three Musketeers.
In the main race of the Sailing Week, the ORC boats, Crioula and Phoenix, after seven races, entered the last separated by a single point, with four victories for Crioula against three for Phoenix. In the decisive test, Ventaneiro 3, owned by Commander Renato Cunha, was the winner, but with second place, Crioula, owned by Commander Eduardo Plass and with the Olympic sailor Samuel Albrecht, secured the title, with ten points lost against 13 for Phoenix. , by multi-champion Eduardo Souza Ramos. Argos, with Lars Grael, finished in third position.
“We sailed very well all week, although we had a little bit of bad luck in the race on Friday. But we got to the last day with a lot of courage and determination, we got second place, which was enough to guarantee the championship. Our biggest challenge throughout the week was to continue learning and sailing our boat. It’s quite difficult, it has a lot of details, we still have a lot to improve as a team. The ship has a lot of potential to be explored. We had a very good rivalry with some boats, in a high level competition, with excellent sailors, all that adds to our achievement. We are very happy”, says the Olympic sailor and Pan American medalist, Samuel Albrecht.
In the C30 class, the definition of the champion was left for the last two regattas this Saturday, with three boats in dispute: the Crazy Horse, with the two-time Olympic champion Robert Scheidt, the Loyalty 06 and the Kaikias. With two second places against the first two of Loyalty, Crazy Horse, owned by Comandante Mauro Dottori, secured the title by a single point: 21 points lost against 22 of the rival. Kaikias finished third with 24.
Torben Grael and Marcelo Ferreira together won two gold medals and one bronze at the Olympic Games. The duo reissued the partnership at the Ilhabela Week and won the absolute title of BRA-RGS and Classics with the Lady Lou, a 1969 sailboat, which debuted at SIVI.
Commander of the Crazy Horse champion and organizer of the Ilhabela International Sailing Week, Ilhabela Yacht Club’s sailing director, Mauro Dottori, highlighted the presence of nearly a thousand sailors and the technical level of the competition.
The competition featured, among others, six Olympic medalists such as two-time champions Robert Scheidt, Torben Grael, Marcelo Ferreira and Martine Grael, as well as Lars Grael and Clínio de Freitas. The five-time world champion and two-time Pan-American champion Maurício Santa Cruz also stand out; World Champion Optimist Alex Kuhl; in addition to the Olympic sailors Gabriela Nicolino, André Fonseca, Bochecha, Samuel Albrecht, Henrique Haddad the Giant, Jorge Zarif and Manfred Kaufmann.
