Menorca closes the 2021 calendar of 52 SUPER SERIES
It will be the fourth that the regatta is on the island thanks to the support of the Club Marítimo de Mahón and the Consell Insular de Menorca
The 2021 season of 52 SUPER SERIES will close in Menorca with the ‘52 SUPER SERIES Menorca Sailing Week ’. It will be from September 28 to October 2 when the island of the Balearic Islands will host the best circuit in the world for monohull boats. The regatta will be based at the Club Marítimo de Mahón. Thus closes a 2021 calendar that will run from May to October and that will pass through Saint Tropez, Baiona, Cascáis, Puerto Portals and Mahón.
It will be the fourth time that the regatta is at the Club Marítimo de Mahón facilities. The first time that the 52 SUPER SERIES passed through Menorca was in 2016 with the dispute of the 52 World Championship that the Quantum of Doug Devos won. In 2017 it was the Azzurra of the Roemmers Family that took the victory in what, like this time, was the regatta that ended the campaign. While in 2019, in the inaugural regatta of the circuit, it was the Platoon of Harm Müller-Spreer that achieved the triumph in the pristine and challenging waters of Menorca.
For Agustín Zulueta, general director of the 52 SUPER SERIES, the return to Menorca is great news.
“For us it is always a pleasure to return to Menorca and this is demonstrated by the fact that it will be the fourth time we will be in Mahón. After Porto Cervo and Portals, Menorca is already the third place we have visited the most times. It is a perfect venue for our regatta. It combines very special and challenging sailing conditions with an incredible island that always welcomes us with the utmost hospitality and with great infrastructures. The Club Marítimo de Mahón is the perfect host for us because they go out of their way to make everything work perfectly, both in and out of the water. The support that the Island Council has given us to take the regatta to Menorca is also very important to us. Doing it at the end of September will give an economic boost to the island’s tourism sector by bringing in around 400 people at a time when the summer season is beginning to decline ”.
