Only in Venice can you have a maxi yacht regatta in the city center.
Today, at the Venice Boat Show near the Enrico Dandolo submarine in the Arsenale, was presented the Venice Hospitality Challenge 2022.
The regatta, reserved by invitation of the Venice Yacht Club to maxi yachts only, will take place on Saturday 15 October with departure scheduled for approximately 1.30 pm. As usual, it will be possible to watch the entire course of the regatta which will be held in front of the San Marco’s Rive.
Last year Maxi Jena – Sina Centurion Palace led by Slovenian skipper Milos Radonjic took the victory. Second place, also in Class 1, for Way of Life – The Gritti Palace skipper Gasper Vincec and in third place Arca SGR – Ca’ Sagredo with Furio Benussi at the helm. “I am particularly happy because this event, born in 2014, from an idea of mine – that is to combine the maritime tradition of the city and the Venetian hospitality of excellence, has rapidly grown over time – declared Mirko Sguario, President of the Yacht Club Venice – “also and above all thanks to the collaboration of the Boat Show, the Municipal Administration, the Port System Authority and the Navy, confirming itself as a unique regatta in the world not only for its spectacularity but also for its technical difficulties: with boats of these dimensions crews have to deal with confined and complex spaces. If we then consider that compared to the first edition the boats have more than doubled, now it is a real skill challenge between champions! Among the novelties of this year there is the start of a collaboration with the Port System Authority in order to evaluate the possibility of a mooring at the Zattere which would allow a wider public to admire the entire fleet of the maxi yachts participating in the event closer. “.
In harmony with sustainability, the central theme of this year’s Venice Boat Show, the Venice Hospitality Challenge has for two years adhered to a specific environmental commitment, providing the crews with garments made by Mureadritta obtained from the recycling of plastic bottles: a project perfectly in line with what the Municipal Administration is setting itself for Venice which, by its natural vocation, must be an example of eco-sustainability.
