FRENCH RACERMAN WILL GO AROUND THE WORLD ALONE WITH ONE HAND
The Frenchman Damien Seguin will be the first Paralympic captain to participate in this trip around the world alone, without stopover and without assistance, at 41 years old on his Apicil Group boat.
He is one of 33 sailors who will start the Vendée Globe sailing on 8 November, but he will be the only one to do this highly demanding adventure with just one hand.
The Imoca class monohull (18 meters long) does not have any specific adaptation except for a nozzle on the winch. Damien Seguin says he is more afraid of being forced into abandonment than an accident, exhaustion or loneliness.
Damien Seguin embarked on a career that in Paralympic sailing that led him to have a large record, two gold medals at the Paralympic Games, in Athens 2004 and Rio 2016, and a silver in Beijing-2008.
In his experience he also has three participations in the Solitaire du Figaro (2006, 2007 and 2018), four Route du Rhum (Rum Route) and three Transat Jacques Vabre, the last one in Imoca (the star monohulls of the Vendée Globe), the last November with Yoann Richomme.
