Trofeo Princesa Sofía

Fitur has been the scenario chosen by the regatta organizers and Trasmed to sign the agreement that makes the shipping company owned by Grimaldi the official carrier of the 51 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca, to be held from April 1 to 9, 2022.

The announcement of Trasmed as the official carrier extends the successful collaboration of the event with the shipping company, which was previously Trasmediterranea and currently owned by Grimaldi. The agreement signed in Madrid at Fitur, the International Tourism Exhibition, strengthens a commitment with its origins going back to the 1990s when Trasmediterránea took over the Spanish Army to organise the transport of teams and boats participating in the event. Since then, the shipping company has been part of the core sponsors and collaborators in each edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía.

“The signing of the agreement is excellent news for all of us”, states Javier Zaynoun, director of the 51 Trofeo Princesa Sofía. “On one hand, for the teams, as working with Trasmed means an exceptional service provided with safety and professional standards which are key elements to guarantee the correct transport logistics, both for sailors and coaches as well as their boats and technical equipment. On the other hand, for us as organisers as it is reassuring to know teams are in the best of hands”.  Ferran Muniesa, the event technical director declared: “It is one of the key collaborations. The event would not be possible without the ferries providing the transport of the teams’ logistics to Mallorca. We are very pleased to maintain the ties we had with Trasmediterranea and have Trasmed’s continued commitment”.

Under this collaboration agreement, competitors at the 51 Trofeo Princesa Sofía will benefit from important ferry discount rates on the Barcelona or Valencia to Mallorca routes. In the last edition of the regatta, the shipping company moved 1,033 sailors and 1,145 vehicles, including vans and trailers with the teams’ boats.

Agreement also extended to the Balearic Sailing Federation FBV
The agreement signed between the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Organising Committee and Trasmed is also extended to the Balearic Sailing Federation. The shipping company becomes the institution’s official collaborator providing special conditions for the transport of the FBV teams and their equipment between the Balearic Island and the mainland.

FBV president Cati Darder highlights the importance of this agreement: “The signing of this agreement is very important for the Balearic Sailing Federation because it means our sailors can travel on Trasmed to attend the national and international events on the federation’s programme throughout the year”.

According to Trasmed Commercial Director Miguel Pardo: “Supporting sport is always a safe bet as it is an activity that moves a high number of travellers. Furthermore, sailing is the maximum expression of the connection with nature and especially with the sea, our environment. Therefore, we are very satisfied with the signing of this agreement with the Trofeo Princesa Sofía and the Federación Balear de Vela and we are sure it will lead to success in the future”.

The 51 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca will be held from April 1 to 9 2022 in the bay of Palma with the joint organisation of Club Nàutic S’Arenal, Club Maritimo San Antonio de la Playa, Real Club Náutico de Palma, Real Federación Española de Vela and Federación Balear de Vela, with the support of the main Balearic public institutions.
