The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has confirmed that the wrecks discovered off the coast of Boston are those of the legendary warship Bear
The ship’s wreckage was discovered in 2019, but only this year did the group of experts investigating the wrecks come to the conclusion that the ship is the Bear with “reasonable certainty.”

Built in Scotland in 1874, the Bear was acquired by the United States in 1884 for an expedition to the Arctic. The ship spent the next 40 years patrolling that area of the planet and conducting search and rescue operations, in addition to other tasks. The Bear also served in two world wars and patrolled Alaskan waters for decades.
