Cape2Rio Race 2023 – New entry

ARRIBASAIA enters the Single-Handed Division of Cape2Rio Race 2023

On the one-year anniversary of the announcement to run a Cape2Rio Race in January 2023 and with just under 15 months to the Start gun, the Royal Cape Yacht Club and the Iate Club do Rio de Janeiro are proud to announce the receipt of the 10th entry.

Brazilian Bruno Baqueiro has entered the single-handed division with his Beneteau 411, Arribasaia. Bruno is no stranger to ocean crossings and racing.  He started sailing at the age of nine together with his father on a Brasilia 32. At the age of 14 he undertook his first blue water crossing crewing on a voyage from Brazil to Granada.

A professional skipper, he decided to purchase a bigger boat and hopes to sail around the world single-handed one day. He has covered over 12000 miles on board Arribasaia, including two trans-Atlantic crossings, between Brazil, Spain and Portugal.

Arribasaia is a sturdy Finot-designed Beneteau 411. Prior to being purchased by Bruno, the boat competed in the 500-year Discovery of Brazil Regatta. Part of Bruno’s motivation to compete in the Cape2Rio Race 2023 is that he will be celebrating his 50th birthday in 2023, which coincidently is the same age our magnificent race will be.

We welcome the entry and look forward to hosting you in Cape Town.
