32nd entry for the Global Solo Challenge and a new performance group.
The momentum of the Global Solo Challenge (GSC) continues to grow. Organisers are delighted to announce that the 32nd entry is also the 3rd Australian skipper, with a 50+ foot performance boat, who at this stage wishes to remain anonymous.
He has been in touch with the GSC for several months as his boat did not fit within the maximum performance criteria set out by the current Notice of Event. Meanwhile, several other skippers have come forward asking if they would be allowed to enter the event on other racing boats such as on one-design racing boats, IMOCA 50s, and other Open 50s.
To cater for such interest a new group is to be added to the event. Provisional calculations indicate these performance boats should set off a further three weeks after the current last scheduled start, ie on November 18th, 2023. The on the water battle between these boats and slower entries who will have started up to 11 weeks earlier will be fascinating to watch.
This will add yet another facet to the ever-increasing popularity of the Global Solo Challenge.
