Princesa Sofia Mallorca Trophy
The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta brings together from today, and until next Sunday, more than 260 boats of 34 nationalities and six classes in the bay of Palma for training in a competition format that acts as a real dress rehearsal for the 51st Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca .
Six of the ten Olympic classes that will compete in the 51st Princesa Sofía Mallorca Trophy are summoned to compete between March 10 and 13 in the long-awaited , the traditional training regatta prior to Sofia.
Nearly 400 sailors on the water
The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta 2022 brings together six Olympic classes with a large representation of more than 260 boats and nearly 400 sailors of 34 nationalities. In the absence of completing the registration of participants, the list of entries shows the participation of 73 boats in ILCA 6 class, 60 in ILCA 7, 44 in 49er, 39 in 470 Mixed, 37 in FX and 12 in Nacra. “This participation demonstrates the good health of the Sofia,” says Zaynoun. “Despite its status as a training regatta, due to the number and quality of participants, it could well be considered an international event. For the teams, it is one more reason to justify their trip to Mallorca and extend their stay, which they take advantage of to go out to train by bike, visit the island,… Discover Mallorca”.
The participation of several national federations stands out, taking advantage of the exceptional conditions of Mallorca in March to hold concentrations of their Olympic teams and compete in the Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta as part of their preparation. This is the case of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation or the German Sailing Federation, which have been training for several days in the bay of Palma. For the Spanish sailors of the ILCA 6, FX, 470 and Nacra classes, it also serves as the first scoring event for the new RFEV Iberdrola Women’s Sailing Cup.
The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta officially begins on March 10 with the registration of participants at the Club Nàutic S’Arenal and the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, the two organizing clubs. The competition takes place from Friday, March 11, to Sunday, the 13th, in three regatta fields established between Can Pastilla and El Arenal.
